John 5th December 2019

Thoughts From The Woolf Team John O Mike was a loyal and very popular and regular attendee at our periodic Woolf Reunions. Whenever he was present, laughter was not far away. His old ‘war stories’ and pranks are the stuff of legend! Sadly our gatherings won’t quite be the same without him. Regrettably I never had the opportunity or indeed privilege to work on the same projects as Mike, however others did and here are some of the personal tributes collected together: Frank O’Hare I worked with Mike on several projects, went shooting with him and experienced his own brand of wit first hand, indeed being on the receiving end of it on occasions! I visited him recently with Mike Jackson and he still had that Casey twinkle in his eye that told me that he was up to something! RIP Mike – you are a legend from my time in construction and your memory will certainly live on with me. Phil Brumby John Thanks for letting us all know I worked with Mike on many projects, and witnessed his unique style first hand. Mike's the guy they are talking about when they say that there are no characters left. Phil David Cornberg John Very sorry to hear this news from Frank earlier today. I worked with Mike on several of his Woolf projects and only have good memories of him. Always game for a laugh! Please pass on my condolences to his family. Best wishes David David Ledger John, Very sad news. As you all will know I worked on the Fosters Sainsbury’s art gallery with Mike, I called an old friend of ours in Norwich this morning; Steve Abbott (whom I haven’t seen for a long time) to tell him about the sad news, he told me Mike had made a surprise visit to him and his wife late last year. That is typical of Mike, he was very good at keeping in contact with people. Mike’s legacy is, despite the sad news when Steve and I were reminiscing this morning about the time with Mike in Norwich, we were constantly laughing at the memories and the great time, and can’t believe it is 28 years ago. Apart from Mike’s humour and sense of mischief, he was a great team builder and man manager, which I witnessed at Norwich. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience working with him. Best regards, David David Ledger Director Wayne Mew Sad news RIP Mr Casey Steve Tighe My fondest memories. If Mike was he was always a larger than life, fun and happy character that was always positive. He will be sadly missed. For me this news came as a real shock. Give my sincerest sympathies to John and his family. Steve Lera Serieux My sentiments echoes Steve’s. Please pass on my sincere condolences. RIP Mike Helen Floyd Hello Frank - oh my goodness I am just devastated but thank you so much for letting me know. I always worried that this would happen and I would not hear about it. I am just so thankful that I got to see Mike in 2013 and again in 2015. I will treasure these memories as well as the ones from 1987-1989 when I had so much fun in London with Mike and yourself and all the other fun people on the building sites. I recognise a few names below. Would you have an email for Genevieve or if not would you please pass on my condolences to her and the family at the funeral. I know he will be deeply missed, especially by Monta and the grandchildren. My best regards to you Frank and again, thank you so much for getting in touch. Kindest regards Helen David Smith Hi John, Thank you for letting us all know. He was such a likeable “action man” that got things done, built teams and was excellent company. I am not sure he will rest in peace. I have many memories, the most immediate -when he attacked the foreman electrician with his own day work pad on the Prudential building. Had to be seen! Regards David.
